Design Portfolio: “Backyard Retreat”
Backyard Retreat is a nearly 500-square-foot deck addition to an existing home located in Bellingham, WA. The family wanted a space for outdoor festivities and lounging throughout spring and summer.
Low-Maintenance and High-Play Possibilities
The addition included a covered deck with ceiling fans for ventilation and cooling and a concrete slab for low maintenance and high play possibilities. The high roof over the deck protects the client’s family from inclement weather while making one feel like the great outdoors still surrounds them. The addition features space for a hot tub that the family can enjoy year-round and a three-piece patio set that offers to lounge when one is done soaking.
The existing uncovered deck was then incorporated into the design to house a space for outdoor dining and grilling off the kitchen or the best location for a couple of deck chairs for sunbathing. The existing sliding doors were maintained and simply built to create architectural interest in the back of the house and practicality for outdoor living.
Maximizing Original Layout
The home didn’t need much improvement to make it shine. However, the addition maximized its original layout and increased its potential as a family home capable of hosting gatherings. This deck is suited for the entertainer every family needs, the grill master that hosts the best family reunions, the parents that host the kids post soccer practice pizza parties, campfires with old friends on warm summer evenings, and quiet evenings with your loved ones on a typical weekday when you so wonderfully have significantly else you’d rather be.
Backyard Retreat, and many others like it, greatly impacts how our clients use their space. Why not make the most of the property your home sits on and enjoy every aspect of indoor/outdoor living tailored to your family’s needs?
