Portfolio: “Family Focus”
Family Focus revolves around a growing family residing in Renton, Washington. Their newly constructed home was unfortunately lacking in space and as a result, new desired areas for shared living and outdoor activities needed to be added. The family sought to create an environment that would enable them to enjoy each other’s company. Given that they loved the beautiful summer weather in Western Washington, the new spaces would provide the opportunity to enjoy outdoor entertainment.
Renton, Washington
Renton is a suburban city near Seattle, Washington. More and more families are starting to call this city home. Situated at the mouth of Cedar River and the southeast shore of Lake Washington, the city has experienced continuous population growth. In fact, over 104,000 residents call it home, as of 2024. As Seattle expands, Renton has become an attractive place to live, in light of its proximity to one of Boeing’s airplane manufacturing plants and UW Medicine. The city also benefits from its close proximity to outdoor recreational areas. All of these are prime reasons why Concept Design wanted to create a successful dream space for the client.
Project Goals
The primary goal of this project was to address the family’s need for additional space and create a design that catered to their specific requirements. Our focus was on enhancing shared living spaces, incorporating outdoor entertaining options, and maximizing the utility of the home during the wet winter months.
Design and Construction
To meet the family’s needs, an extended living space was added to the home. This extension served multiple purposes, providing an area for outdoor entertaining and a comfortable indoor space for relaxation during the rainy season. The original home had all the bedrooms on the upper floor, while the shared spaces were on the ground floor.
As a result, the remodel and redesign involved creating enough floor space to accommodate a master bedroom on the ground floor. Additionally, the open living space was designed to become the central hub of the house, serving as a gathering place for the entire family.
Outdoor Features
An essential aspect of Family Focus was the addition of a covered patio that offered protection from the elements. This space was designed to accommodate outdoor grilling and provide ample room for outdoor furniture. The inclusion of sprawling windows surrounding the living space was a specific request from the clients. This would allow them to watch their growing family from inside the home while enjoying the outdoor view.
The design team incorporated these requirements into Family Focus, ensuring that the remodel aligned with the family’s vision and goals. The mindful design was at the forefront of their work, reflecting their commitment to prioritizing the needs of the family and creating a space that catered to their lifestyle.
The Family Focus
The Family Focus project in Renton, Washington, showcases a thoughtful home remodel that prioritizes the needs of a growing family. The project successfully transformed the house into a family-centric home by expanding the main living space. Furthermore, the outdoor entertainment area was incorporated, and design elements were integrating that promoted group interactions. The family and Concept Design LLC collaboration resulted in a space that harmoniously blends indoor and outdoor living. At last, the family had the functional and enjoyable living environment they originally hoped for.
