Design Portfolio: “Toybox”
Toybox is a playground for the automotive enthusiast. Located in Bellingham, Washington, the home was designed for an automotive mechanic who plans to use the space to work on personal projects, including various cars and motorcycles.
Bellingham is a beautiful city 52 miles south of Vancouver, BC, and 92 miles north of Seattle. The city sits comfortably facing the protected waters of Puget Sound and is home to over 90,000 individuals. The area offers multiple hiking trails and maritime activities. Locals have often seen mountain biking and enjoying scenic drives along Chuckanut Drive.
Simplicity, Industry, and PNW surroundings
The home sits at 2,374 square feet. It features a two-story main living space. Additionally, Toybox has an additional single-bedroom suite and kitchenette for in-laws and supplemental income. The interior design was inspired by simplicity, industry, and the home’s northwest surroundings. This resulted in blending the owner’s love for cars, artwork, and tokens which were inspired by raceways and engineering of days gone by decorate the walls. The tables were chosen for the space and feature live edge slabs that bring an organic flow and embrace the rugged charm the owner intended. The floors are finished concrete slabs that ensure low maintenance durability while enhancing the space and adding to the aesthetic.
Toybox revolves around the four wheels its owner passionately spends his days working on. The home features a four-car garage facing the street. Additionally, a heated workshop is nestled within that garage for the owner to work in the colder months without heating the entire space.

This home is for the serious hobbyist/enthusiast and is suitable for any professional or amateur mechanic who enjoys tinkering in their downtime.
